Able | 2021
Able is a monotype series that navigates the grief of losing one's previous life before chronic illness, while also embracing the transformative growth that accompanies it. Created early in my printmaking career and as I was coming to terms with a complex chronic illness diagnosis, this series explores the profound perspective shifts I experienced while confronting my deeply internalized ableism. The work marks my first experimentation with using embossment and embroidery in my prints, techniques that allow me to visually articulate complex feelings of loss and adaptation. Through these prints, I process the sorrow of things lost while celebrating the tenderness and perspective gained, offering a space for both reflection and renewal.
