On My Volcano Grows the Grass, 2022
Eight color reduction linocut
29 x 22 in.
On My Volcano Grows the Grass is part of an ongoing series called Sundowner—a collection of color reductions that explore my experiences of caring for elderly relatives and the complex ways memory loss transforms these relationships overtime. This print was inspired by a weaving done by my mother-in-law, Jan Du Bois, which, in turn, was inspired by the poem of the same name by her favorite poet, Emily Dickinson. As her dementia has progressed, this poem has been re-remembered into numerous derivations, prompting a collaboration of revisions between us, artist-to-artist, reimagining our shared favorites in strange, yet familiar ways.
