Half Life | 2023

Linocut series with accompanying music album

Half Life is a series of linocut prints paired with songs that explore the lingering presence of different types of ghosts—manifestations of loss that echo through time. Each song-print pairing reflects on the many ways we are tethered by past traumas, yet simultaneously propelled by them into the future. The hourglass motif running through each piece symbolizes this dual nature of time as both a weight and a force, drawing us through memories of loss to carry us into our hopes for the future.

This work expands on the idea of trauma as time travel as explored in my earlier art/album project Harrow, now moving beyond personal pain to collective trauma: pandemic grief, shared familial scars, and the unraveling of community. The ghosts in these prints represent not just the loss of loved ones but also the loss of memory, health, innocence, and faith. These are specters of good intentions gone wrong, of direction lost, and of solitude turned isolation—each haunting us in distinct ways that shape our present and our future.

Half Life is a reflection on how trauma, like time, moves in waves—sometimes drowning us, sometimes carrying us forward, but always ever present.
